Tomorrow begins a fun filled 140.6 mile journey through The Woodlands, TX. So far everything has been fairly smooth and I feel great! Tomorrow’s high tops out at 86 and the winds will be 16mph out of the south. The course is basically 55 miles north and 55 miles south so we will be finishing up into the headwind. My goal is to keep it under control the first 1/2 and keep my power up and stay aero during the last 1/2. My prediction is that the race will be won during the back half of the bike course. I am super confident with my new bike position thanks to Dave and Ben and 51 Speedshop. I have the most aero set up a tri geek could want and despite the crazy head wind back in to T2, and I sure hope it doesn’t feel as windy as Kona did.
I am not going to lie, I did do some racer stalking and the 30-34 age group is loaded with lots of competition. So much in fact, that I had to stop looking. There are some great runners so IF I do have a good bike… just know that it will come down to a foot race:). At the end of the day, I just want to have a solid day. A solid day will bring about a great placement. Anything else is BONUS!
Here are the goals:
- Make it through the swim without my hips locking up.
- Keep my nutrition down on the bike while still hitting my power goals.
- Run to my capability given the heat… all without throwing up!
If all of that happens, then I will be crazy happy with my day. I have worked really hard at figuring out my bike fit, working on my biomechanics and dialing down my nutrition. So, I am really stoked to see how those 3 things come together.
