Whitney Burdzilauskas: Personal Trainer, Coach and Professional Cyclist
When I was a kid, I remember watching the Hawaii Ironman on TV. My passion for running started that day! We had 10 acres, and I would run the perimeter of our property just for fun (I didn’t say I was normal). I was the kid swimming laps at the pool just for fun (again, not normal). I didn’t take sports seriously until late in college when I was introduced to the Indiana University Little 500. I tried my first triathlon in 2003, and completed Ironman Florida in 2004. Since then, I have completed countless half ironman distance triathlons and 16 Ironman distance triathlons. I have qualified for the Hawaii Ironman 3 years in a row, in the 30-34 age group (2013-2015). 2016 was a year of transition as I started my first season racing professionally. It has been a long and humbling journey, but I never turn down a good challenge! This experience has helped me be a more versatile coach and overall athlete.
My love for the sport introduced me to my career in fitness. In 2003, I received my personal training certification from the NSCA. The next spring, I received my pilates mat and reformer certification from IM=X and developed my knowledge with PHI Pilates. Over the course of the next few years, I completed a few more Ironmans and improved my cycling by training with a power meter. I have received my indoor power cycling certification from Cycleops and hold a USA Triathlon Level 2 Endurance Coach Certification. In addition to being a certified personal trainer, I have a CrossFit Level 1 Certificate. I enjoy working with barbells, body weight movements and constantly working on my weakness – flexibility.
I train each client depending on his or her goals, background and injuries. I truly believe that we all have a deeper place that we can go to experience and to achieve something that we never thought possible. Sometimes it takes someone else to prove to you that you CAN accomplish the impossible whether it is losing weight, walking a 5k, running a 1/2 marathon, riding a 100 miles, finishing a triathlon or racing at your peak potential.
I take an intense, yet balanced approach to training, utilizing different techniques to get the most out of your mind and body. Some days you might be put through an intense weight training session, and other days I have you on the pilates reformer focused on your breath and deep core muscles. The location of the Fitness Lab also provides the perfect opportunity for me to work with you on your running and/or biking.
